Random Musings

Well, my to do list has shrunk. I finished a good portion of my MNHS lesson plan and I knocked off the letter of recommendation. I was even able to get a chapter of “The Scarlet Letter” read.

Dad called last night and said that he expects to be released to day. My sister is taking time off to be there for him. I’m taking Friday off to help him and possibly take him for a chemo treatment. It will still be a few days until we find out the results of the biopsy. If the mass in his lungs happens to cancer instead of pneumonia, it sure spread quickly. And that wouldn’t be good. I am preparing for the worst (for the new mass to be cancerous) and for the best (for it just to be pneumonia). That tells you how dire things are. But my dad is a strong man and will make the best of it. As will I.

Our garage doors were frozen shut. And so were our vehicles. At first I thought the garage door opener was broken. But our neighbor was having the same problem So a thorough lashing of the doors was enough to break the ice loose and they opened. However, I was still 25 minutes late to work. Still I must say arriving here safely and eager to work made this the best morning of the year so far.

One of the joys of this year has been watching the grade school kids at the Catholic school across the street play. Today they are bundles up and sliding across the ice patches on their playground. There is just something mesmerizing about watching kids play. Sometimes the entire class will become absorbed in watching them. A few years ago I had a small journalism class. We spent the half block doing the play by play call of their kick ball game. Aaron was the broadcaster. I was the color commentary man. Alec was the former kick ball star turned broadcaster. Ashley was our tech person who narrated the replays for us. It was grand time.
